AI meal plan

AI meal plan generator

An AI meal plan generator turns a profile and a goal into a week of meals with a calorie andmacro target attached to each one. What separates them is what happens after generation: whether the week is a block of text, or a record you can edit.

Type "generate me a weekly meal plan" into a chatbot and you get something plausible: calories near your target, sensible-sounding meals. But that list dies the moment it's written — it doesn't know your budget, forgets your allergen, and can't remember what you ate yesterday.

Cookrange's AI generates the plan not as text but as a live record: every meal is a real data row, it can be edited one item at a time, and when it changes you can see what changed and why.

How the plan is generated: four steps

Step one is the only part you can run today, before the app ships: thecalorie calculator uses the same Mifflin-St Jeor equation and the same 40/30/30 split the generator starts from, so the daily target it returns is the target a generated week would be built against. See TDEE andmaintenance calories for what that number is measuring.

  1. Give your profile and goal. Height, weight, age, activity level and your goal (lose, maintain, gain). The AI derives a daily calorie and macro target — a number computed from your inputs, not a template.
  2. State your constraints. Allergens and ingredients you dislike. These apply at generation time, not as a filter afterwards — a meal that breaks them is never created.
  3. The week is generated. Around 28 meals built from recipes you can actually cook. Each meal's calories and macros are balanced against the daily target, and the shopping list falls out of the plan automatically.
  4. Edit one item at a time. Change a meal you don't like, or a single snack. You can type it in plain language: "poured chocolate sauce on the banana" recalculates only that line and leaves the rest of the plan where it is.

Generation vs suggestion: constraints come first

Most systems generate a plan and then bolt a warning on top: "contains peanuts". In Cookrange, allergen and preference filters are active during generation — a peanut meal is never created, so there's no suggestion for you to reject.

Single-line edits, without blowing up the plan

The most frustrating thing about AI-generated plans is that a small change regenerates everything. Cookrange doesn't do that. Tap a banana and type "poured chocolate sauce on the banana":

  • +54 kcal lands on that snack's own log entry, not on the rest of the plan
  • the daily target stays fixed at 2,410 kcal — what you've eaten that day is shown live on top of it
  • nothing you already logged moves

What the AI does not do

Cookrange is not a medical device or a health application and does not give medical advice. For pregnancy, diabetes, kidney disease, a history of disordered eating and similar conditions, a generated plan is not a substitute for a doctor or dietitian. The AI computes targets and builds meals; it does not diagnose or prescribe.

When can I try it?

Cookrange is at v0.9.6 internal alpha and isn't live on the App Store or Google Play yet. This page describes a system being built, not a downloadable product. When TestFlight and Play beta access open, the waitlist hears first.

Frequently asked questions

What does the AI base the meal plan on?

Your profile (height, weight, age, activity), your goal, and your allergen and preference filters. Those inputs produce a daily calorie and macro target, and the week's meals are built to hit it.

Can I edit the generated plan?

Yes, at both meal and single-item level. A banana, a sauce or an entire dinner can each be changed on their own. A change typed in free text recalculates only the line you touched.

Is the plan regenerated every day?

No, and that's deliberate. The weekly plan holds steady; when you log something mid-day it's only added to your consumed total for that day — the plan itself and its remaining meals don't change on their own. Anything already logged stays exactly as logged. A plan that constantly regenerates isn't a plan you can follow.

What if the AI suggests something wrong?

Because allergen filters run at generation time, a meal containing your allergen is never created. Every other suggestion can be rejected or edited. Cookrange does not give medical advice — consult your doctor or dietitian about your health.

How many plans can I generate on the free tier?

Planning, logging, recipes, community and streaks are complete on the free tier. Premium only buys more AI generation runs; it never locks your own data or the core features.

Can I try it now?

Not yet. Cookrange is at v0.9.6 internal alpha and isn't published on the stores. Join the waitlist and you'll be among the first told when TestFlight and Play beta access open.
