One code, check in within seconds

Checking into the gym takes seconds with a QR code. Once it's scanned, your check-in is recorded. On the same screen, the weekly gym leaderboard ranks members by the XP they earn that week.

What a QR check-in actually records

A QR check-in is a proof of presence at a moment, and that is all it is. Your phone's camera reads the code displayed at the gym, and what gets written down is which gym and when. Not where you are, not where you have been, not how long you stayed unless a separate exit is recorded.

The reason QR is the default rather than a fallback is worth stating: it needs no location permission at all. The gym proves the location by displaying the code, so your device never has to report a position to establish that you were there. Any check-in mechanism that starts from your coordinates is asking for something a QR scan does not need.

Three ways a check-in gets recorded, and what each costs you

  • QR scan. You take your phone out. No location permission, nothing inferred - the most private of the three, and the only one that requires a deliberate action.
  • Automatic entry when you cross the gym boundary. Nothing to take out, but it needs background location. Consent comes from its own non-skippable screen, is off by default, and is granted per gym with at most three tracked at once. Your latitude and longitude are never sent to or stored on a server: what is kept is the gym's name, your entry time and your exit time.
  • A one-time "are you here?" confirmation. If permission drops from Always to While Using, this card takes over while the gym's screen is open. Decline it, or run a device that does not support background location at all, and QR keeps working exactly as before. Nothing about the product depends on the automatic path.

The honest ordering: QR asks the least of you and the most from you. Automatic entry inverts that. There is no option that is both effortless and location-free, and an app claiming otherwise is worth a second look.

On the way: nearby-gym ranking runs on your device

Walking to the gym, your remaining distance and estimated arrival time are computed on your phone. Nearby gym and coach ranking also runs on-device — no coordinate is ever stored on a server. Decline the location permission and your check-in and streak are unaffected; only nearby-gym ranking turns off.

The privacy boundary: what your gym sees, and doesn't

Your gym sees its own check-in count and the last 60 days' peak-hour pattern. You see your member list and check-in records at display-name level, and can export them as a CSV. You never get access to a member's nutrition history, weight data or measurements — that stays in a store only the member can read.

Gym wars, and your streak

Two gyms can compete against each other over seven days by check-in count — gym wars (see how it resolves below). Remember the streak itself isn't gym-based — it belongs to your own squad: the gym ecosystem gets you there, the squad is what keeps the streak alive.

Now: automatic check-in when you walk in

Alongside scanning a QR code, an automatic entry can also be recorded in the background the moment you cross your gym's boundary — no need to take your phone out. The session closes on its own when you leave. This requires explicit consent from its own, non-skippable screen; that consent is off by default and turned on per gym (at most 3 gyms tracked at once). Your latitude and longitude are never sent to or stored on a server — the only thing kept is your gym's name, your entry time and your exit time. You can turn it off any time; from that moment, no new record gets created.

If permission drops from "Always" to "While Using," a one-time "are you here?" confirmation card takes over while the gym's screen is open; if that's declined too, or your device doesn't support it at all, QR and GPS check-in keep working exactly as before — nothing breaks. The server side of this was tested and is live this session; the phone side, which needs background location, hasn't been tried on real hardware in this environment — written, not field-verified yet.

Live occupancy, with an honest caveat

Automatic entry/exit now feeds a real server-side counter: your gym's own dashboard shows how many people are currently inside (and what percentage of capacity, if one's set) — this is no longer a forbidden claim, it's genuinely provable server-side. But the hardware-verification gap above affects it directly: since the phone side hasn't been tried on a real device yet, the counter reads zero at every gym today — it'll start moving once real arrivals start coming in from the field.

For your gym: growing membership and commission

Approved gyms can generate a printable QR invite code from their dashboard — a new member who enters it at signup connects to your gym automatically. The commission model, member-data boundaries, and the full QR kit are on the page for gyms and coaches.

A gym war resolves itself

When the seven-day window closes, nobody picks the winner by hand: the gym with more check-ins is automatically declared the winner, and both gyms get notified. A tie declares no winner. Active and past wars show up under the "Wars" tab in the gym's own dashboard.

If you want to list your gym

Gym owners apply from inside the app: gym name, address and contact details, plus a business document and an ID document. Applications are reviewed within 2-5 business days; you're either approved or declined with a reason, and the result arrives as a notification.

Frequently asked questions

How does my gym access member data?

By default, your gym sees its own check-in count and the last 60 days’ peak-hour pattern. You see your member list and check-in records at display-name level, and can export them as a CSV. You never get access to a member’s nutrition history, weight data or measurements. If a member chooses to, they can separately share a narrow summary with you through a tiered, default-off permission — check-in frequency, logging consistency, or the direction their weight is moving — see the full tier boundaries on the progress analytics page. For the commission model and more, see the page for gyms and coaches; for the check-in mechanism, see the gym ecosystem page.
